NYFW Report: Halston Fall 2009

I don’t believe New York Fashion Week, which starts tomorrow, will be remembered as the year we all down sized (canceled after parties, no town cars, and what no goody bag?). It will be remembered as the year when designers came up with new and creative ways to promote themselves.  Our favorite so far, Halston’s Fall 2009 presentation, which is all digital and stars Dree Hemingway (yes her great grand pop wrote, "For Whom the Bell Tolls"). The video will be emailed to a select group of editors, retailers, and fans on February 13th.  We like the fact this is a “green” solution and can be viewed from the comfort of your home where eye liner and heels are not required. Here is a sneak peek above courtesy of Style.com.

On Twitter: Fights, Trends, & Cruel Shoes

If you subscribe to "The Moment"  Twitter account (aka The New York Times Style Magazine), you were treated to a questionably twitchy tweet yesterday.

"Going through mountains of New York fashion week invitations. Just received Christian Siriano invite (2/19 6 p.m.). Who wants it?"

After checking with Siriano’s PR person, The Moment realized they could not give the invite away and apologized. Apparently Siriano's camp is all in a "twitter" about this incident which includes his boyfriend, Brad Walsh,  now taking pot shots at the Times on his blog.

Food for thought:  we now live in a hyper-connected world where people choose to communicate openly on Facebook and Twitter.  Maybe we should all learn to get over it.  Don't like what someone has to say?  Just move on. Besides, was the tweet that offensive?  If a few “efffings” were thrown in,  I could better understand the need for a full on smack down.  Read what Queerty had to say.

Barrielle via TwitPic posted their latest nail shades for Summer 2009. "Lemonade " is shown above.  Stay tuned, the ideeli blog will be giving away the entire Barielle Summer 2009 collection shortly.

2threads tweeted about a post on Cracked.com. 6 Popular Fashion Trends (That Killed People). We always knew that a "look" could kill.

The Millionaire Matchmaker is BACK

The Millionaire Matchmaker with Patti Stanger is returning for a second season tomorrow, February 12th -  just in time for Valentine's Day. Oh joy! This is one of my favorite mind numbing shows and I mean that in a very good way. The TIVO is set!

Stanger is at the top of her game as owner of a Los Angeles-based elite matchmaking service in which she helps wealthy men find the women of their dreams. But this season, there's a twist, as Patti adds female millionairesses and gay millionaire clients to the mix. AWESOME!

In the premiere episode, the drama starts right away when the demands of the millionaires get out of hand. One client suffers from what Patti calls NPD –“Narcissistic Personality Disorder” and another client, a total “man whore”, tries to stealthily break Patti’s rules by getting additional girls’ numbers on the side.  Will Patti ever be able to find “normal” bachelors?  Jeez, most of the female population can’t find a “normal” bachelor (aka man with job, socks that match, and good grooming habits).

The Millionaire Matchmaker 2 premieres tomorrow night: February 12th, @ 10/9c on Bravo.

Shop & Tell: McQ Pop Up Shop

Okay frugalistas, Valentine’s Day just became more interesting. Tar-jay will open its pop up shop for Alexander McQueen’s diffusion line McQ at St John’s Center this weekend. This will give New Yorkers a fashionable 3 weeks head start on sporting the line before the masses get shopping access on March 4th.

The Target McQ Market will also feature young NYC artists who will be creating one-of-a-kind pieces using prints, fabrics, and embellishments from the McQ line. How very Etsy...

The line ranges in price from $19.99 - $129.99 and includes a variety of spring staples including slim skirts, skinny denim, and shorts. My favorite item from this 80’s inspired collection is the Tiger Print Silk Shift Dress for $44.99 (shown upper right).

If you plan on attending this shopping event arrive EARLY.  We expect this pop up shop to be picked clean.  Can’t attend?  Sign up for the MCQ Market email reminder so you don’t miss the online sales event.

The Target McQ Market at St John’s Center, 330 Washington Street at West Houston Street. Feb. 14-15, noon to 10 p.m.

Style Questionnaire: Doe Deere

The blogsophere is home to a gazillion stylephiles. We like to feature our favorites.

Name: Xenia, aka Doe Deere. Doe Deere is my alterego, which also functions as a stage name for my 80s disco music project.

Where you are from?: I was born and raised in Russia, but NYC is where I did most of my growing up. I currently reside in Brooklyn, NY, with my husband and two persian cats.

Describe your LOOK: Quirky, girly, theatrical. I love top hats, Victorian and circus-inspired outfits, and pink is my favorite color.

Inspiration?: It's hard to answer singularly as I am inspired by pretty much everything I see! For instance, today I'm old Hollywood glamour - dark, thin-line eyebrows, beauty marks, red lipstick - because of a photograph on the wall in my hotel room. But I also adore all things lolita, fairy-tale, and magical. I live and swear by glitter.

Day job?: I have a blog which I update every day, Doe Deere Blogazine, and run a make-up company called Lime Crime. It's almost like having two businesses at the same time, and can get pretty crazy sometimes; but I really love it! I wouldn't trade my job for anything else in the world.

Tell us about Doe Deere Blogazine and Lime Crime: Doe Deere Blogazine is an online publication for and about women. With me being such an estrogen junkie - I love anything girly & pink! - is it any wonder my readers are 98% female?! Haha. I write about keeping positive, offer style tips and makeup tutorials, have a Letters from the Reader column, as well as an occasional update on my personal life.

Lime Crime is a makeup company I started because I couldn't find eyeshadow bright enough for my tastes. Our slogan is, "So bright, it's illegal!" and we believe our product truly lives up to its name! The color you see in the pot is exactly what you're getting on your lids.

Top ten tunes on your play list: At the moment, I'm into 80s glam and electropop. Freezepop, Duran Duran, Lady Gaga, Britney's new record. I've been bopping around to Poison's "Unskinny Bop" for about 2 weeks in a row now. Haha. Have a listen..

Most treasured item(s) in your closet: My top hat collection! I collect top hats of all shapes and sizes - they've become somewhat of a signature accessory. :)

What item do you covet? I'm currently on the hunt for a hot pink top hat. A good one is extremely hard to come by; so much so that I've considered taking a white one and dying it myself.

Fashion heroes? I admire Betsey Johnson & Marilyn Manson. Eccentric and flamboyant, they dress with more personality than one could handle, never trying to fit in or be 'normal'.

Favorite fashion period: I enjoy Victorian, some Medieval, 1960s,1980s, and the present - because it allows me to mix it all together!

What do you plan to wear this spring? A chunk of mainstream, a pinch of underground, and a whole lot of *me*!

Famous Last Words: Thank you, ideeli, for the opportunity to share. Muah!
