What motivated you to start your jewelry line?
As a small child, I remember going into NYC with my mother, standing in front of the Van Cleef & Arpels Fifth Avenue windows and being dazzled by the replica of Empress Josephine's crown. Thus began my lifelong love of jewelry of all kinds. As a single mother of two, I started the Glassworks Studio Ltd. in 1981, designing my first pieces on my kitchen table. Eventually, my two daughters, Jill and Kara, joined me as my partners and we are proudly in business over 31 years.

What was your inspiration for the pieces you design with Swarovski elements?
My inspiration is simple. I would use no other crystals in my designs. Swarovski Elements are a wonderful medium to work with because of the countless sizes, shapes, and brilliant colors available, which makes designing my collections limitless.

What do you love about working with Swarovski crystals?
The quality and precision that goes into the making of every Swarovski crystal is impeccable. I can always trust the color-matching of any crystal, past and present, so when I create a new collection it can harmonize with previous collections seamlessly.

Do you have any tips for women on how to style your pieces?
Our jewelry is designed for every woman, whether she is working all day or attending a glamorous dinner party. We have pieces to mix and match for any occasion. AKD crystal earrings can be worn with jeans or a favorite LBD. Our pins are versatile and can be worn on coats, to dress up a purse and even in the hair for that special occasion. Our necklaces, in varying lengths and designs, can be layered endlessly. Every woman loves to sparkle and we provide that look for her.

What is the best gift you have ever received?
A sapphire and diamond ring from the Edwardian period, which was given to me by my wonderful daughters Kara and Jill for my 50th Birthday.
