On July 27, Prince's movie and record, Purple Rain will be officially 25 years old. It was the album that scared the bejesus out of most parents (the song Darling Nikki fueled Tipper Gore and the PMRC ) and the movie convinced most American teenagers that Minneapolis was actually cool. I remember being grounded for two weeks after my parents discovered I snuck out to see the forbidden film. At the time it was well worth the punishment.
