Daneen Is Spoiled Pretty

CategoryStyle & People

Meet Daneen Baird, a self-proclaimed cosmetics connoisseur and the editor and chief of Spoiled Pretty, a beauty blog for style and make up enthusiasts.

When and why did you launch Spoiled Pretty? After I got married in June 2007, I had a good amount of free time on my hands. Creative writing has always been a hobby of mine, and I love cosmetics, so everything sort of came together. Written in a conversational and snarky tone, Spoiled Pretty is like taking a peek into the journal of your fashion and beauty-obsessed BFF - the one who knows which products to stockpile and sidestep; the gal pal who can talk for hours  about a new haute-couture handbag; and the trend-spotting, deal-finding friend who loves nothing more than to share the deets.

...And that is why we love your site. What makes you feel pretty? I feel my prettiest when my hair is doing exactly what I want it to, when my complexion is having a good day, and I don’t need to wear makeup.

Amen to that! What do you think is the next big trend in beauty? At -home tools that replicate professional anti-aging, skin care, and hair removal procedures – devices like Tanda and Tria.

What is the most treasured item(s) in your beauty arsenal? Hands down, my MAC Lipgloss collection. I must have around 75 tubes. MAC glosses come in the most amazing array of colors; even the crazy ones (yeah…I’m talkin’ about you, Spring Bean) are very wearable. And they have the most delish vanilla aroma.

You should be their spokesperson! Okay what is the most treasured item(s) in your closet? The most treasured items in my closet are my handbags. I own more than 25, and I’m always looking for a new one to adopt. Just don't tell my husband (aka Mr. Spoiled Pretty); he seems to think that when you acquire a new purse, you have to throw an old one out. Can you believe? That kind of reasoning only happens in the male brain. My favorites bags are from Abaco Paris (purchased on Ideeli), Treesje (another Ideeli buy), Felix Rey, Perlina, La Chica Chic, Hype, Helena de Natalio, Junior Drake, and Rafe.

What items do you covet? Christian Louboutin patent nude slingbacks, Rebecca Minkoff’s Stud Devote handbag, Max Mara Eyeglasses, a Rebecca Taylor dress, Tory Burch ballet flats, and a Norma Kamali swimsuit.

Fashion heroes? Designers: Max Azria, Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera (my senior prom gown was CH), Monique Lhuillier, Catherine Malandrino, Zac Posen, Tracy Reese, Rebecca Taylor, and Diane von Furstenberg.

Celebrities/Icons: Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Jennifer Aniston, Rachel Bilson, Halle Berry, Joy Bryant, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Leighton Meester, and Reese Witherspoon.

Favorite fashion period? I absolutely adore the 1950s silhouette. The cinched waist and a-line skirt were just so chic and feminine. As a decade, the 50s celebrated fashion accessories, which I love; the hats, gloves, and glasses were beyond fabulous!

I totally agree. What are the top 10 tunes on your playlist right now?

What is your best piece of beauty advice? Practice when you have no place to go. And have fun with makeup; try new techniques, experiment with color and go wild. If you make a mistake, it washes off.

Famous Last Words: “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.” -Miss Piggy
