Dear Dr. Jamé:
Can you recommend a tinted moisturizer with an SPF that's light enough for daily wear in the summer? Foundation + powder can feel so heavy in warm weather.
From Dianna, The Budget Babe Blog
Great question Dianna! We get this one often at Wellpath.
Unfortunately, when products claim to be "all-in-one," like the product you described, they often contain a lot of "junk" and fillers that aren't great for our skin - especially our faces. So here is our solution:
Put away that liquid foundation during the daytime. The weather is too hot and humid, and your skin needs to breathe, or else you risk clogging your pores. Save the liquid foundation for evenings and special occasions.
Second, try a mineral makeup. My favorite is Jane Iredale Pressed Powder. Jane Iredale started the mineral makeup trend, and to this day, in my opinion, they are still the best. For a sun kissed look, try the suntan or golden glow shades. What makes mineral powders so fantastic, is that they contain all the things you are looking for: nutrients that nourish the skin, coverage that is complete yet looks fresh and natural, and SPF. Two of the key active ingredients in pressed minerals are zinc and titanium dioxide, which are also the key ingredients in any doctor recommended sunscreen! Rather than slathering on a thick zinc cream, you can just brush on some color and the minerals overlap to create a protective and reflective barrier. The result? Good color, great SPF. I always wear this powder on my face during the summer- even at the beach.
Thirdly, leave your moisturizer for the evening, or use only a light moisturizer underneath your powder. Most of us do not need thick, heavy creams during the summer months.
Hope that helps!
