Suri Cruise Strutting In Heels

CategoryStyle & People

Katie Holmes and her gorgeous wee one Suri Cruise were Halloween shopping earlier today in Boston, Massachusetts. Suri was strutting around town in itsy bitsy high heels.  Cute and chic or totally inappropriate and disturbing? Call me stodgy, I am leaning towards the later.

I think little children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood without being "dress-up dolls" for the adults in their life. At this age it is hard for wee ones to negotiate regular toddler shoes, leastwise an adult stack heel. I was horrified one afternoon when my prospective godddaughter showed up for a play date in a similar shoe with similar styled heel. She was dressed like her Mom's twin with a spaghetti strap mini-dress. Well, I diplomatically brooched the inappropriateness of the style of dress and impracticality of the heeled shoe with Mom...I do not know if it will have a lasting impact. But, my future goddaughter kicked off her uncomfortable "Mini-me" adult styled shoes and went barefoot as soon as Mom left my house...
She asked me if she could change out of her "party dress" to some comfortable shorts and a tee shirt. We ran and tousled in my garden and played "Run, Rabbit, Run" and "hide and go seek" in the grass sans shoes. Playing is the main occupation of a toddler not being saddled with the dictates of adult fashion-conscious Moms...that will come only too soon in her adolescence. Please, Moms, consider a happy and healthier childhood minus sprains that can be caused by inappropriate footwear. Try not being overly "fashion conscious" or "keeping up with the children of Hollywood mega-stars" like little Miss Suri Cruise!

Now I understand why Katie has such horrible feet. Poor Suri.

As I'm sure most woman would agree, playing dress-up when your little with Mom's heels and lipstick can be fun; but having your own pair of heels so young? In my opinion it is unnecessary. Children should be able to run around in shoes they are allowed to get dirty and won't twist their ankle in. However, there are girls who do want to be just like their moms, even at such a young age. It is possible that Suri wanted a pair of heels for herself. Although I'm sure Katie and Tom try to give her the most normal childhood as they can, she doesn't have the normal life that others her age are lucky to have. So maybe Suri wanted the shoes herself because she is always around older women sporting stilettos or maybe her mom wants her to wear them because of the fashion crucial bubble they live in. I sure don't know. I say if Suri wants to wear heels every now and then let her - if she doesn't DON'T MAKE HER!
