The Runaways' Rockin' Style

The movie The Runaways is coming out today—all about the pioneering 70s girl band of the same name that first launched Joan Jett to fame—and we're dying to see it, even if just for the fashion and the music. The reviews aren't all that sparkling, actually, but we're finding it hard to resist the idea of Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning rocking out—and flaming out—in decadent L.A. style. The film, based on the autobiography of the band's other star, the singer Cherie Currie, received Joan Jett's crucial stamp of approval (she served as producer), and as far as we can tell, it has the 70s bad-girl rock-chick look down cold. Light denim? Check. Oversized plastic shades? Check. Little, Liberty-print like florals? Check. At ideeli today and next week, we're also serving up some Runaways-appropriate gear, including this adorable light denim dress and floral shirt from our Lucca sale today and these amazing sunnies that will be in our Betsey Johnson sale next Wednesday.

We don't recommend a full-on Runaways revival, either style- or behavior-wise (we won't spoil the ending but, as you can probably imagine, Joan and Cherie didn't stray too far from their song, "Born To Be Bad"), but we love the idea of incorporating a little rock n' roll edge circa 1976 L.A. into the closet. Rock on, ladies!

The ideeli Scoop with Lorae Russo

Lorae Russo, Creative Director for Elliott Lucca (check out our sale today), knows a thing or two about the power of the handbag. Having been the head designer for heavyweights including Giorgio Armani and DKNY, Russo has brought oodles of accessories experience to Elliott Lucca since starting there in 2007. Originally inspired by Balinese hand-woven sleeping mats when the company was founded in the 80s, Elliott Lucca is still known for their beautifully woven leathers. More recently, the brand's coveted drawstring bags have been getting lots of love from fashion mags and celebs alike. Now, ideeli's getting the scoop on what's in Russo's bag, how to work fringe, and more...

What items do you always have in your bag?
I always carry lip gloss, my wallet, sketchbook, my journal and 2- Lucca 3 way Demi’s from Elliott Lucca. I use one for my cosmetics and the other for my pencils.
Who has been your biggest style influence?
Yves Saint Laurent. It was the first boutique in Paris that I ever visited and I always felt it was such a modern sense of style; clean and modern yet incredibly luxurious.
What blogs/sites can you not live without?
Facebook – it connects me with all of my friends in the fashion community; Style.com – for the latest in trends and runway images; and Daily Om – my spiritual break from the fashion world.
What are you most excited to start wearing now that the weather's warming up?
My Rick Owen’s jacket. It’s asymmetrical, textured and goes great with jeans, a tee and my new Elliott Lucca Granada Trapezoid Satchel.
Any advice for ideeli members on how to wear trends like cross body bags, studs, and fringe?
Make it your own. Always balance your outfit and don’t overdo a theme.

Print-tastic at the Oscars

There were many stunning Oscar looks last night (Has Demi Moore discovered some kind of reverse aging elixir?), but the real standouts for us were Rachel McAdams and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who wore of-the-moment prints and totally pulled it off. The red carpet, usually a print-free zone, has seen a sprinkling of refreshing graphics lately, with Olivia Wilde at the Independent Spirit awards owning another fashion-forward moment in a gown by Ralph Lauren (above right). From Dries Van Noten to Thakoon prints have played starring roles on the runways recently, in styles ranging from painterly to abstract to digital. No matter how you slice it, prints are having a major renaissance, and why not? The floral pattern on this Ellen Tracy dress available at ideeli today (bottom left, get it here) shows off gorgeous hits of perfect-for-spring color. The graphic print on this frock by Curtsey, available starting tomorrow, (bottom right, get it here) transforms a strapless dress into a modern style statement.

Dress them down with boyfriend blazers or up with heels—even if you're not heading to a red carpet any time soon, ideeli has you covered with easy printed pieces that are right on trend.

So Long Bryant Park

After 17 years of countless air kisses, chaotic pre-show moments and definitive fashion triumphs, the Tents at Bryant Park are moving and ideeli was proud to be a sponsor of the grand send-off last night to bid au revoir to an era. With over 1500 people in attendance, the Tents were packed for the last time from the lobby to the Promenade with fashion's bold-faced names paying tribute to the iconic locale. Among the revelers were Yigal Azrouel, Vivienne Tam, Lorenzo Martone, Lynne Yaeger, Kelly Cutrone, Russell Simmons, Robert Verdi and of course countless models—all stopping by to take a nostalgic glance back and look forward to the big move in the fall, when Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will relocate to Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park. Also in attendance were the 3 lucky ideeli members who scored invites to the party through our latest giveaway: Leah Melone, Karen Entwistle, and Carol Miu.
Fern Mallis, the IMG force behind the entire enterprise, said, "Wow!! The tents in Bryant Park will never be the same after last night's fantastic send-off. Just 2 hours after Tommy Hilfiger's great show, the Tents were transformed into the coolest party space...we should have done this every year!! Great friends, colleagues and industry players all came for a last toast." 2 DJ's and countless mini bottles of Moet ensured that the festivities were hopping, and it didn't take long for a full-on dance party to break out in the Promenade tent, where revelers could get down right on the revered runway. The party went on till the wee hours and as we left for the last time we couldn't help thinking, if only the Tents could talk, the stories they'd tell.

A Fashion Week Oasis

Those craving escape from Fashion Week's whirl headed to Townhouse Spa on Tuesday and Wednesday to relax at Beauty Bar presented by the Daily. Co-sponsored by ideeli and Godiva, guests were able to regroup with complimentary blowouts, massages, and manicures. Tinsley Mortimer and Countess Luann from NYC's Real Housewives stopped by to enjoy the calm in the eye of the storm.
